2 day workshop with GUEST ARTIST

  • Date: January 14th & 15th
  • Time: 10:00am each day
  • Level: Beginner
  • Cost: $165 per person to make 3 projects.Class size is limited so register early.

Jenny Thomas, a Jackson Mississippi based fused glass artist, was trained first as a painter. Once introduced to the process of fused glass, she translated her love of painting into painting with glass. Come attend this 2 day workshop to learn new techniques to add layers and dimension to fused glass pieces using frit.

Materials, firings and use of all tools are included - projects will be in System 96 Glass™ Wear comfortable cotton clothing - No open toes shoes or sandals. Please bring a notepad & pen and feel free to bring a sack lunch. Soft drinks provided.

Unless otherwise noted, you must be at least 14 years old to participate in a workshop. Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who is also enrolled in the same class. All students will be required to sign a HFC® issued liability release form.

Frit Casting: (2 sessions)

  • Date: Saturday Nov 12 and Saturday Nov 19
  • Time: 2:00pm – 6:00pm
  • Level: Beginner
  • Cost: $195 per person / Maximum 4 people

Learn the techniques to make thick cast frit tiles, make a deep casting use of pate de verre-type molds, and have fun making a freeze-and-fuse sculpture. Learn to paint with powders and how to add dimension and texture to your pieces using larger frit. You will make 3 cast pieces with your new-found knowledge.

DATE NIGHT

  • Cost: $90 per couple / Maximum of 4 couples

Cast aside the traditional options for where to go on a date and impress your date with something new, fun, and lasting. Join us for date night at Hollander Fusing Center of Atlanta. You can munch on light hors d'oeuvres while together you make a special work of art that will last a lifetime. For $90.00 you can enjoy a few hours together and collaborate on a creative bowl or platter to commemorate the evening. And if you want to sip on beer or wine while you work, feel free to bring it along with you.

INTRODUCTION TO KILN FORMED GLASS

  • Cost: $110 includes all materials and fees / Maximum of 8 Students

Learn the art and craft of kiln-worked glass in this exciting two-part class. Come ignite your passion for glass fusing, learn the basics and release your creativity in a whole new medium.

New art glass enthusiasts will learn about the process of glass fusing, from cutting and designing; to kiln and mold preparation; firing schedules and kiln operation; annealing, fire polishing and glass compatibility. You will learn about the decorative aspects of various forms of glass such as crushed glass and powders, plus glass stringers and noodles. In addition we'll cover the basics of slumping techniques and mold selection, plus general safety issues.

Each student will create three fused glass art pieces to take home and keep, or to give as gifts: A sparkling piece of dichroic jewelry, a vase or decorative plate, and a square tile. We will even do a real-time kiln firing as part of this informative hands-on class. No previous experience is necessary.

HFC workshops are designed to build confidence, develop knowledge and skills and inspire students to break through creative boundaries in kiln formed glass. There will be a limit of EIGHT students per class.

DELICIOUS DICHRO! Beginning Dichroic Glass

  • Cost: $95.00 includes all materials and fees / Maximum of 8 Students

Get acquainted with the dazzle of dichroic glass and make your own sparkling one-of-a-kind jewelry. We will discuss the unique properties of dichroic glass in order to assist you in developing your artistic glass designs, as well as different ways to approach findings and finishing the piece. You can make beautiful pendants and earrings even with no previous experience with dichroic glass or glass cutting experience.

Completed workshop pieces will be fired in the kiln and be available for pick up in approximately one week or arrangements can be made for shipping.
HFC workshops are designed to build confidence, develop knowledge and skills, and inspire students to break through creative boundaries in kilnformed glass.
Materials, firings and use of all tools are included but you are welcome to bring any hand tools you like to use. Wear comfortable cotton clothing - No open-toed shoes or sandals.

Please bring a notepad & pen.

Fun Projects Class

  • Why not try the art of glass fusing? Make a quick and easy project and end up with a one-of-a-kind piece that you will be able to keep and display, or give to a special someone as a gift.

  •  

  • Weekdays, evenings, and Saturday classes are offered!

     

  • Classes are generally up to 3 hours with special individualized attention - maximum of 12 people per class.

 

Choose a class to make any of the following special keepsakes!

• Candy bowl
• Plate/platter or bowl: decorated with glass bits and "stringers", in Mosaic-style, or painted & fired
• Pocket-vase to hang on a wall

If you are new to fusing glass and want to try your hand at it, take an art break to

de-stress, unwind, and immerse yourself in the creative process. Come alone or bring a friend for a 3-hour artistic adventure and make your own beautiful creation of glass. And it's a great bonding opportunity! Children 8 and up are welcome if both parent and child are taking the class together.


No fusing or glass experience is necessary; we will walk you through step-by-step to create your own personal masterpiece. We will fire your piece and you can pick it up later, or opt to have it delivered to you via mail.
