Cutting Edge refers to learning the latest techniques that are in the forefront of the kiln forming movement. Flexi-Glass is a new product that is taking our industry by storm. It is just one of many new processes you will learn over this intensive three day class. This class will have a bit of a 'three ring circus' atmosphere as students integrate new tools and techniques to create specific visual effects.

The kilns activities will combine some of the latest approaches to advanced fusing processes such as 'combing,' 'mosaic,' reverse firing,' and 'inlay' techniques. The hot ticket these days is cold forming using both the Flexi-Glass Medium to make sheets of glass you can cut with scissors and densely colored enamels threads and Liquid Stringer Medium to make glass clay similar to PMC only with glass. We will cover cold combing which takes the heat out of this exciting process and piping and stringer techniques. This class will cover investment and mold making materials, types of glass, compatibility, kiln firing schedules, annealing and using enamels.

Students will also have hands-on experience using a torch and the Murphy Fire Bucket, a 2150º furnace used to do the molten glass dance. We will start by making twists and stringers to get a feel for the process then advance to pattern bars and eventually paper weights. Gil's informative and humorous banter makes this class an educational delight. Take this class if you want to move beyond the basic 'cut, stack and fire' approach to fusing or desire to be ahead of the pack. It is a guaranteed exciting seminar for all levels of glass experience. We will be using primarily System 96 COE glass in this class.

Use of all tools, materials and firings are included.
Projects will be in System 96 Glass™
