Join Master Cold Working artist Kent Lauer for this brand new one-day class. You'll make beautiful, faceted dichroic glass pendants using dichroic glass from Coatings by Sandberg, and learn awesome cold working techniques at the same time. This exciting hands-on class will cover all aspects of creating these breathtaking pendants, from cutting 1/2" thick glass with a diamond ring saw, to laminating and beveling. A thin layer of Dichroic glass will be laminated between two layers of beautiful Starphire glass, then ground and polished into an incredible jewel. Not only will the student learn to make the dichroic pendants in this intensive class, at the same time they are learning the basics of cold working and beveling. It's really like three classes in one. No glass cutting experience required. Class size is limited to ensure individual attention. Students will have the opportunity to make several pendants, which in value, pay for the class, not counting the knowledge they will take away from an incredible day. The students will have the option of affixing bails to the pendants the day of the class, or taking them home to wire wrap them, or set them in precious metal clay, or have them set in silver. Join Master Cold working artist Kent Lauer in this very unique and popular class creating a beautiful faceted dichroic glass sculpture! The class will cover all aspects of creating a sculptural piece of art glass, from cutting 3/4" Starphire glass with a diamond saw, to laminating and faceting by hand. The basics of cold working glass will be covered in this intensive two day class, and students will learn to use one of the most advanced epoxies in the art glass world. Hxtal is a crystal clear, extremely hard epoxy used by museums worldwide, and by some of the greatest artists in cold glass art. A thin layer of dichroic glass will be laminated between two layers of 3/4" starfire glass using the Hxtal epoxy, then ground and polished to perfection. Explanation and demonstration of how to measure and mix the Hxtal will be shown in creating each students sculpture. Students will also make several practice pieces using 3/4" Starphire glass, learning how to grind and polish flat surfaces, using flat lap diamond machines. All of the techniques learned in this class can be used in finishing coldworking techniqes for fused glass, hot glass, or even grinding and polishing a variety of materials, such as marble or other types of stone.
