While a fine arts major at UC Berkeley, David Alcala first originated the art he calls Sand Tapestry, basically a combination of sculpting and weaving layers of colored sand between two pains of glass to create beautifully intricate scenes. Since 1976 David has created over 50,000 works of art with sand that have reached every corner of the world.

Another discovery moment for David was when he became aware of a material called glass frit and that it could create basically the same scenes as Sand Tapestry, but fired to a solid plate. David's fusing techniques has created quite a stir in the glass art community and says "Unless you experience the technique, you won't know how naturally it flows and comes together."

Come join us in this fascinating workshop and learn how to coax different layers of glass frit into sculpted scenes and create a one of a kind Glass Tapestry of your very own.
